Should a slim person workout?

I wish I had the knowledge I have now, I wouldn't have bothered myself with the obsession of putting on weight by all means possible when I was younger.

As mentioned in a previous post I had a very slim physique while growing up. I was teased often by people I knew and total strangers at some point. Coupled with the fact that the media continually accentuates a figure that is mostly acceptable as healthy to the public and a lot of us buy it.

Well, I fell so hard for that, because I had always done a mental comparison between what I saw on social media and reality. I didn't understand how the body worked at that time, and I was not adept to nutritional facts. In fact, I didn't see myself in that line of study then. Now I understand better and will like to correct some impressions you still hold so dear that aren't true.

Before anything else, I would like to assure you that having a slim physique doesn't mean you are not healthy. For some people it's genetic. That's the way they were made and no matter how much they try, they can't gain or retain weight. It is only considered an issue when the person is under weight. To understand this concept you can check your BMI(Body Mass Index which is a simple calculation using a person's height and weight). The formula for BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared(BMI = kg/m2).

A general belief system that a lot of people have is that — Exercising is strictly for fat people. This right here is DECEPTION.

Although, exercising is majorly advised as a convenient option for fat people to lose weight. Nonetheless, even if you have the most active metabolic rate, it is recommended that you have a form of activity that keeps you going. Exercising isn't just done to lose weight, It helps you build strength and keeps one fit.

There are also a lot of health benefits associated with exercising.

✯ It helps boost energy levels —
Exercising is a natural way of boosting one's energy level. When we exercise, oxygen rich blood is pumped to the heart, brain and muscle. There's also a noticeable increase in circulation of other nutrients throughout the body.

✯ It promotes better sleep —
Now tell me, who wouldn't sport a good rest after working out. Certainly not me! During the process of exercising, the body produces chemicals that help us relax better; thus, increasing the number of hours we spend resting.

✯ It improves one's mood —
Exercise helps reduce depression by increasing serotonin (which helps your brain regulate mood, happiness, and anxiety).

✯ Help spark your sex life —
I know... You definitely didn't see this coming; but, yes! It's so true.

It is believed that exercising helps improve one's libido because it assists in reducing stress which is a libido terminator especially in women. Now read that again 😉

✯ Increases social activities —
This is one of the biggest positive side effects of exercising because you not only get rid of unwanted fat in the body, you also develop social skills. These skills include conflict resolution, cooperation with peers and empathy. It also enables a conducive environment for networking.

When next you think of all the good things you could get from exercising, the last thing you would want to think of is “SIZE”. You might not get all the encouragement you might need but always remember that you own your body, and you have absolutely every right to look good irrespective of anyone's opinion.

Fun facts:

✪ For every pound of muscle gained, the body burns 50 extra calories every day.

✪The "Pinky Promise" originally indicated that the person that breaks the promise must cut off their pinky finger.
