The Biggest Contribution Of Domestic Violence To Humanity

Pain, trauma, broken homes, death and more deaths!

Following the news of the death of the gospel singer Mrs. Osinachi Nwachukwu "the Ekwueme crooner," a lot of people have come online with opinions on why they think such hazard could be prevented and others emphasizing on the fact that she lived her persecution as a Christian. In this post I will be attaching pictures of alleged accusation and opinions of people as seen in the media space.

Ptsssstt click ME to get an Easter egg, oops 🤭

After seeing the posts online, reading through all the write ups and articles about the situation, I thought of jumping into this topic just to put up my two cents because of course we do not live a pre-designed life, sometimes life actually happens to us.

"Domestic abuse, also called "domestic violence" or "intimate partner violence", can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. Abuse is physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, terrorise, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure, or wound someone." United Nations

Domestic violence was usually seen as an occurrence popularly in marriages, but today we see domestic violence transpire in relationships, situationships and some kind of friendships that of course are not properly defined by both parties.

The first thought that came to my mind when I wanted to write about this was to avoid playing the blame game which naturally I see happening all the time all over social media, it's like a limitless gender war that has been raging for eons.

Sometimes, when there's no trending topic, the next thing to be talked about is how one gender did this or that and then there's an endless argument to which gender is better, which gender should be roasted, which gender should be sacrificed and of course, which gender is a scumbag.

Ultimately, while I believe both genders have the likelihood of being toxic and abusive, it is still quite probable that abuse or violence can come from a particular set of people as a result of social inequalities.

Recently, I have followed spaces where people talked about their experiences with these abusers and given red flags to look out for when in the company of these people which includes:

✧ Control

✧ Dependence

✧ Intimidation

✧ Isolation

However, we discover a routine behavioral instinct in both the abuser and those being abused. We discover that with time, they become victims of the Stockholm syndrome.

Irrespective of everybody's opinion on this matter, I personally put it out there in big fonts that:

Domestic violence is bad in all ramifications, there is absolutely no justification for it. If you feel your marriage is not working out especially on the grounds of abuse; please do the needful and leave because the same society that you think would crucify and cook you will still be open to typing "rest in peace" as their final goodbye to you when it goes south. I see no reason why we should justify any form of violence both religiously, socially or morally.

In essence domestic violence is bad irrespective of who it happens to, what religion they practice, what tribe they belong to and finally the scenario in which it occurs. And remember not to discriminate against the victims of such violence.

Always bear in mind that before we became anything in this world, we were human beings first and should be treated as one.

Fun facts:

益 People who witness domestic violence are 2 times as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults.

  1. Thanks for sharing, Glory.

I particularly commend your broad and balanced view on the subject after reading your article.

Definitely, I take the true Christian (Bible's) position on this without any apology.

The Bible says 'No' to divorce (as I read it), condemns violence and allows for safe temporary separation and conflict resolution.

More importantly, the word of God teaches the importance of wisely, intentionally and prayerfully walking into the lifelong journey of marriage.

“WATCH and PRAY so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” —Jesus Christ (Matthew 26:41)

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, it is a deep religious insight to the topic.
I still vehemently stand against violence especially domestic ones and believe that the Bible preaches love and truth which does not support an abuser in the first place.

I also believe there should be a balance since the Bible says no to divorce. This occasional death occurrence is getting out of hand.

  2. Societal norms that promote domestic violence and abuse need to be changed. Also, the stigma associated with divorce should also stop, and strict measures taken to leave such union.

    1. I totally support every word on this and feel the need to emphasize the obligation to encourage victims around us because it takes great courage to walk out of such unions.

  3. The story about the gospel singer really shook me when I heard the rumours about it being domestic violence that caused her death.. It's really sad to hear that people that are supposedly grounded in Christian faith get into very abusive marriages like this and still do not handle it wisely..

I love the way you didn't point any fingers to any particular gender when referring to this..
I believe everyone should walk into marriage only with very strong conviction and prayer as well and still keep your eyes open and make wise decisions all through.

    1. I often wonder how people find themselves in such unions and wish them well because most a times, they do not envision death as result of such decision. In most cases, they believe that their partner would see them for their worth and subsequently stop the abuse. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic.
