Basic Detoxification

Do you know that: Our liver cleanses our blood 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It filters nearly 380 litres of blood every day to remove a number of micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites from our bloodstream.

Well I didn't know that as well...

I was just kidding, of course I knew.

We're fast approaching the yuletide season, and there's a lot to eat, drink and make merry with and while you will be naturally concerned with eating something that's going to make you really sick, you can sleep well and eat all the rice and chicken that you want because Mr. liver is working hard 24/7 to remove most of the nasty things in our body.

To start with, where do these these toxins come from?

Generally toxins are gotten from the environment: from the air we breathe (urbanization and exposure to pollutants, heavy metals, preservatives and pesticides)

the food we eat, water we drink, household products cosmetics and drugs.

With its presence in practically everything we come across, I'm sure you'll all be like," oh my God! We are all gonna be sick!! There's no escaping it"

But there's actually no call for alarm as you can detoxifying your body at the comfort of your home and in that way show those toxins that you are the boss.

It is important to know that there are specific organs that detoxify in the body such as the:

- Liver

- skin

- kidney

- intestines

- lungs

Liver: The liver's main function is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, before it's been passed to the rest of the body. Therefore, the following are necessary for detoxifying the liver. They include- broccoli, cabbage, Brussels, tumeric, beetroot, walnut, olive oil and citrus.

Skin: The skin is a protective layer of our body, also helps in regulating body temperature. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables and drinking at least eight or more glasses of water a day helps your skin flush out toxins from the inside. Intensive care is to be given to the skin due to its sensitive nature.

Kidney: The kidney filters about a half cup of blood every minute, removing wastes and extra water to make urine. Staying hydrated is the key to detoxifying the kidney, other methods include intake of cranberry juice, apples and vitamin c.

Intestines: These are long tubes running from the stomach to the anus, which absorbs most of the nutrients from what we eat and drink. The main detoxification method is water flushing, other methods includes- eating fruits with high water content such as watermelons, tomatoes, lettuce, and celery. Intake of broccoli, raspberries, milk and oatmeal help a great deal.

Lungs: The main function of the lungs is to move fresh air into your body while removing toxic gasses. The main method of detoxification is steam therapy, other methods include- intake of green tea, regular exercise, peppermint, eucalyptus, vitamin D

apples, blueberries.

Now what are you waiting for? Those toxins aren't going get rid of themselves *winks*

I hope this helps you as you prepare for the new year.

See you in the next update!

Fun fact:

Because of a lucky genetic mutation that happened in the 18th century, some people in a small town in Northern Italy don't suffer from cholesterol artery-clogging, making all of them immune to heart diseases and stroke.
