The food chronicles: How much is too much

How much is too much?

Hello Royals,

Happy independence Day to all my Nigerian readers and a wonderful morning to the rest of you lovely people.

You know, there's a thin line between eating to sustain and overeating. I'll pass my point with this story.

Once upon a ti—just kidding!

I never knew the amount of restraint I had until I found myself facing the largest and most beautiful buffet I had ever seen in my life(and I had seen quite a lot. What? I'm African.)

Restraint thineself

There were so many different varieties of food and desserts, I was impressed I hadn't ran like a crazy woman to the table and stuffed my face. But I couldn't.

I had to comport myself.

Having portrayed myself as a civilised young lady to the fine bobo that had been casting glances at me from across the hall, I couldn't just dive into the dishes like an animal.

Even though I really, REALLY wanted to.

So I walked quite gracefully to the table, selected a rather small piece of cake and walked away.

Bravo! Bravissimo!! Such self-discipline was phenome—but hold it just now. Before you go on congratulating me, I would like you to know that I had a plan.

The entire occasion would go on through the night. That was enough time for me to go through at least half the dishes on the table. That is, provided my plan worked.

The thing is, I had noticed that when ever a group of two or more went by the buffet, it looked weird if anyone of them ended up walking away empty handed. It would always play out like this:

"Oh I think I'll have some pork chops."

"Ah, me too. And such a pretty looking pudding. . ."

"I agree, John. Hey Chioma, aren't you going to have anything?"

"I'm kinda full already."

"Ah ah, how? What did you eat that wouldn't let you try even this small spiced meat here?"

"But—"

"Chioma take something joor. At least to keep your mouth busy—"

"If you can't finish it, you can give us."

"Exactly!"

And, Chioma would end up taking something from the table.

This was a foolproof plan. Time to find my friends and would-be friends!

Summary of the story. I steered any group I was in to the buffet table a lot of times and, being obscured by the crowd, I was able to eat so much food that I sported a bloated tummy for the rest of the night AND had a loooong talk with mother nature right after I got home.

Now even an idiot would know that I had overeaten, but there are more subtle and definitely less dramatic ways in which everyone overeats.

Here are some of them:

■■ Binge eating (The consumption of large quantities of food in a short period of time, typically as a part of an eating disorder.)

■■ Stress eating

■■ Childhood habits

■■ Environment triggers (Ever heard that our close friends, family and environment affects our eating habits?)

So don't go judging me okay? You're just as guilty. Don't be scared though, in part two of _The food chronicles_, I will be talking about some of my experiences with a couple of the aforementioned points and how I turned things around for myself!

FunFacts:

☞ A single strand of Spaghetti is called a “Spaghetto”.

☞ Fruit stickers are edible, though the same with any fruit, washing prior to eating is recommended. The glue used for them is regulated by the FDA

☞ Researches have found that flossing your teeth can help your memory. Flossing prevents gum disease, which prevents stiff blood vessels, which cause memory issues.
